Preston Kennedy, 90, of Willow Dr. formerly of Paducah, KY entered into eternal rest on Thursday July 25, 2013 at the R J Corman Ambulatory Care Center. He was the widower of Martha Joe Kennedy. A native of Gilbertsville, KY he was born June 30, 1923, to the late W.B. and Mary Lee Houston Kennedy. Preston was a retired newspaper editor for the Paducah Sun, during which time he received many accolades from his colleagues. He was the first executive editor of The Paducah Sun-Democrat later The Paducah Sun and was considered a journalism legend. "Working for Preston was like something right out of a movie, he was the classic tough, jovial, cigar-chomping newsroom manager" was a description given by Jim Paxton, editor and publisher of the Paducah Sun. He graduated High School from Benton during which time taught himself journalism and typing, attended Kentucky Military Institute and the University of Kentucky. In 1941 he was hired by TVA as a hospital clerk and trained as a medical aide and operated the first aid room at the construction site of the Kentucky Dam and was said to have been the first person to teach first aid under the auspices of the U.S. Bureau of Mines and American Red Cross. He entered into the US Navy in 1942 and was discharged in 1945. He was a member of the Reidland United Methodist Church and former owner with his son James of the TurfCare lawn care. He leaves to cherish his memory son James William Kennedy, FL and companion of 14 years Waulene Lucas. He chose Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home for cremation.
