ALICE MARIE (BLAKEMAN) BROOKS, age 93, entered the life immortal Nov. 7, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Beavercreek, Ohio. She was born February 25, 1917, during a raging blizzard in rural Jessamine County, KY. A graduate of Nicholasville High School, she attended Union College and Transylvania University obtaining a B.A. in Education, and received her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Wayne State Univ., Detroit. She taught all grade levels throughout a long career including special education and physically challenged children. In 1941 she married Rev. Roland Brooks. They served Methodist Churches in Michigan from 1943 to 1978 then retired to Jessamine County. Alice was a member of Wilmore United Methodist Church for 32 years since retirement and active in many church and community organizations. She was gifted with a brilliant mind and prodigious memory, vivacious personality, gentle spirit, and loving heart. She will be missed and cherished by her family and all who knew her. She was preceded in death 18 years ago by husband Rev. Roland Brooks; also by her parents Mack and Emma Blakeman, sisters Grace Lee Renneker, Kathryn Blakeman, Mattie Logan Walters, and brother John Robert Blakeman. She is survived by many relatives including her brother James Herman (Ruby) Blakeman, sister Corine Herren, son Rev. Philip (Rev. Gloria) Brooks, daughter Joyce (Daryl) Blevins, grandchildren Philip Roland Brooks and Alison Marie Brooks, Dr. Leila (Nick) Bradaschia, Lynsey (Dr. Michael) Gibbons, Meridith Blevins, and great grandaughter Olivia Bradaschia.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, 207 W. Oak St., Nicholasville and the funeral on Thursday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Wilmore United Methodist Church, 209 E. Main St., Wilmore, KY 40390 with interment following at Maple Grove Cemetery in Nicholasville. Rev. Jamie Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the ‘Alice Brooks Endowed Scholarship’ at Asbury Theological Seminary, 204 N. Lexington Ave., Wilmore, KY 40390, so her loving support of ministerial students and education may continue in perpetuity. Alice blessed countless lives by her Christian witness and compassion and now has entered into the consummation of the faith that sustained and strengthened her through a long and fruitful life.
