Alice Beatrice Stumbo Comb

Alice Beatrice "Bea" Stumbo Combs, 94, widow of James Shelby Combs since 1991, joined him in eternal rest on Thursday, May 8, 2014. Bea was a native of Floyd County born Feb. 18, 1920, to the late Charles G. and Bertha Ann Conn Stumbo. Shelby and Bea along with their family owned and operated Martin's Department Store on Main Street in Nicholasville until their retirement. She was a member of Nicholasville Presbyterian Church where she participated in the Women's Circle, Jessamine Woman's Club, Jessamine County Garden Club, Homemaker's Club, Eastern Star, and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a very talented painter and loved flowers. She was also Nicholasville's First Lady since her husband Shelby was Mayor of Nicholasville for several years. She leaves her legacy and memories to her children Jayne Martin Combs and Rad Shelby Combs, wife Kelly, grandchildren Shelbye Maynard, husband Chris of Conn., Alex and Bailey Combs, Nicholasville, a sister Sharon Stumbo, husband Frank Kebbell, brother Charles Edward Stumbo, great grand children Sarah, Jonathan , and Christopher Maynard along with numerous nieces and nephews. Her Remembrance Celebration will be 11:00 AM Monday, May 12, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Maple Grove Cemetery. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Alex Combs, Vance Drakeford, Jeff Brumagen, David Hickerson, John Allender, and Ben Coffee. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 11, from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome but contributions may be made in her memory to the Diabetes Foundation.
