Alvin "Cowboy" Harris, 89, of Wilmore, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the VA Hospital on Cooper Drive. A native of Estill County he was born May 4, 1923, to the late James and Allie Metcalf Harris.

He was the loving husband to Hattie Arvin Harris for 66 years. As a bricklayer Alvin worked for many companies in the Central Kentucky area and was a member Bricklayers & Allied Craftsman Union Local #1 and Bethel Christian Church. He loved rabbit and coon hunting, fishing on the Kentucky River and pitching horseshoes.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his 7 children Ken Harris wife Charlotte, Lancaster, Marie Taylor, husband Larry, Lexington, Brenda LaFavers, husband Harold, Donna Bruner husband Tony, Arlene Grimes husband Thomas, Alvin Ray and Randy Harris all of Wilmore. 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers Everett, Avery and Arvil and one grandson Lucas Bruner.

A Remembrance Ceremony will be 12:00 Noon, Friday, Aug. 31, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Camp Nelson National Cemetery will full Military Honors. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Tim Taylor, Bryce LaFavers, Rick Miller, Edward Berryman, Ray Harris, Daniel Harris, Dana Arvin, and Cecil Harris. Honorary bearers will be Ben Arvin, Cecil "June" Humphrey, and Billy Joe Rainwater.
