Barbara Sue (Phillips) Fischer

BARBARA SUE FISCHER (1939 – 2018)   Barbara Fischer, 79 of Lexington, passed away August 16, 2018 and was the daughter of the late Marvin and Hester Phillips of Nicholasville, Kentucky.   Born in Nicholasville, Kentucky on January 24, 1939, she is survived by sons Steven Fischer (Karen), Craig Fischer, Chris Fischer (Angie) and daughter Suzanne Dorsey (Todd).   Barbara had six grandchildren:  Chandler Fischer (Martha), Erin Fischer, Ethan Fischer, Kristin Gamble, Corey Gamble and Eli Fischer.  Step-grandchildren are Kyle Dorsey, Kurt Dorsey, Chris Owen and Jeff Owen.  The family truly appreciates the services of Pam White, long time friend and caregiver.   Barbara always had a song in her heart – after graduating high school from Lee County in Beattyville, she attended Morehead State University and graduated in three years with a degree in Music.  She later went on to teach music in Bradenton, Florida public schools.  Barbara was instrumental in starting Community Christian Church in London, Kentucky in 1969 where she played the piano during services and led the church choir.  She later sang in the choirs at Southland Christian and Northeast Christian churches in Lexington. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home, 207 W. Oak Street, Nicholasville, Kentucky beginning at 11:00 AM followed by a service at 2:00 PM.  Pallbearers are Charlie Andrews, Kyle Dorsey, Chandler Fischer, Eli Fischer, Ethan Fischer and Corey Gamble.  Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, 500 N. Main Street, Nicholasville, Kentucky following the service.  Flowers are welcome, but the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to serve the Fischer Family.
