Bertha Alice Merriman of Wilmore, Kentucky passed on to her heavenly home on Thursday October 21, 2021, following an extended illness. She was an employee of Asbury University for the last 28 years. She graduated from Jessamine County High School Class of 1984. She was an organ donor recipient in 2006 and it gave her many more years of Her life that she spent looking after and taking care of others. She was our Sissy; she had the most giving heart and soul. She was a devoted Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and friend to so many who adored her. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Easter Arrowood Merriman and her sister Doris Marie Merriman Adams, 8 half siblings and nephew Billy Wayne Cheek. She leaves behind 2 siblings, Greenberry Merriman and Patricia Cheek, both of Wilmore. Although she never had children of her own, she was the light of the lives of all her immediate and great nieces and nephews and friends that loved her dearly. Melissa (Robert) Houp, Amanda (Andrew) Caleb and Grace Wood, Christina (Anthony) Gunnar Lillian and Preston Ruggiero, Berry Neal (Anna) and Jared Houp, Georgia (Martin) Aaron (Amanda) Axton, Ace and AnnaJean Perkins, Sydney, Robert (Trinity) Paisley, Xaria and Sawyer Perkins, Rebecca (John) John Henry and Jacob Schaefer, Joseph Casteel, Johnathan (Tracy Eckler-Adams) Amber and Kelsie Adams, Patrick, Dusty, and Willie Cheek. David, Rylan and Lachlan Lay, Wayne (Ashley) Landon and Peyton Eckler, Her Cherished Friends, Michelle Clark Butcher, Dee Dee Jackson, Lori Donaldson, and Lea Shabangi and many other friends and Co-workers. Pallbearers will be Her Nephews, Johnny Adams, Robert Houp, Berry Neal Houp, John, John Henry, and Jacob Schaefer, Joseph Casteel, Aaron and Robert Perkins Anthony Ruggiero and Andrew Wood. Honorary Pallbearers will be her cherished friends and coworkers of Asbury University physical plant.
Her family will receive guests from 4pm-8pm on Sunday October 24th and her funeral will be on Monday October 25th at 11am at Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville with Pastor Glen Spann officiating. Graveside service to follow at the Wilmore Cemetery. Bertha was given life as the recipient of organ donation and because of that we got to love her for many more years. Her family encourages others to be an organ donor so that others may live a longer life. Contributions can be made in her honor to Hospice of the Bluegrass
