June 25, 1954 - December 10, 2014
Burgin Radford Riggs, 60, affectionately know as "Rad," went to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014. He was the loving husband of Jackie Preston Riggs for 33 years and father to Michele Miracle (husband Keith), Chris Riggs (companion Stephanie Moses), and Sara Riggs Todd (husband Cody), who will forever cherish their memories of him. Rad was a native of Fayette County born, June 25, 1954, to Barbara Masters Riggs and the late Herbert Clyde Riggs. In addition to his mother, wife, and children, he leaves memories with a brother, Barrett Riggs (wife Debra), sister, Della Rae Riggs, (companion Mike Ballinger) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Myra Ann Riggs. Rad was a veteran of the US Army Reserves during which time he received Military Police training which led to his employment as a police officer in Danville, the Bluegrass Airport, and the Nicholasville Police department as a patrol officer and detective from where he retired. He enjoyed fishing, was an avid UK Wildcat fan and armchair coach for the team, and he was honored as a Kentucky Colonel. A Service of Remembrance will be held 1:00 PM Monday, Dec 15, at Nicholasville United Methodist Church, where he was a member. He will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery. Honoring Rad as pallbearers will be David Trimble, Michael Farris, Jeff Brumfield, Jon Scott Ogden, Preston Ogden, and John Wiley Keen. Honorary bearers will be Perry Lee "Buddy" Teater, Jim Castano, Benny Lyons, Gary Burdine, David Latham, Al Leonard, Richard Campbell, Dr. John Thomas, and the staff of the CTV Unit at St. Joseph Hospital. The family's appreciation to nurses Stephanie, Amber, Molly, Sue, Nathan, Crystal, Danielle, Victoria, Patrick, and John pharmacy resident, with whom they shared a special friendship, cannot be measured with words.
Rad's family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome but the family suggests contributions be made to the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation. Guestbook and Tribute available at www.hagerandcundifffunerals.com
