Charles Clayton Byrd, 93, entered into eternal rest at Diversicare of Nicholasville on Friday, May 6, 2016. He was born in Clay County, Kentucky on September 9, 1922 to the late Floyd and Rosie McQueen Byrd. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a hunting and gun enthusiast. He leaves to treasure his memories his loving wife Mary Loeta Lloyd Byrd, step daughters Janet Walker, husband Ronnie, and Anita Sutton, step grandchildren Michelle and Darrick Matthews, Jeremy and Shirley Willoughby, Stacey and Greg Jones, and David and Athena Walker, step great grandchildren Jacob Matthews, Scotty Mink, wife Morgan, Jayden Matthews, Madison Willoughby, Charles and Joyce Jones, Colton Walker, Jessica and Kailey Jones. He is also survived by a sister Hazel Combs and brother Ivan Byrd. He was preceded in death by sisters Daytha and Goldie White and Edna Reynolds, and a step great grandchild Charis Ava Walker. His Remembrance Service will be at 1:00 PM Monday, May 9, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery. Juan Davis, Scotty Mink, Bobby Huddleston, Ronnie Walker, Jeremy Willoughby, and Darrick Matthews will honor him as pallbearers. His family will receive friends at 10:00 AM before his service at 1:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Clayton's family would like to express their gratitude for the care and dedication given by the staff at Diversicare during his stay there for the pas seven years and also to Logana Baptist Church for the support they have given to the family during his illness.
