Charles ‘Red’ Dawson, died Wed. June 8, 2011, at Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Ky. Red was a native of Altoona, Florida and grew up in St. Simmons Island, GA. thus earning him the reputation of a real southern gentleman. He was born March 1, 1926, to the late John and Edith Dawson. The son of a carpenter Red continued the tradition by working for MW Kellogg Company, and in 1960 joined the Consolidated Chimney Company where he became a construction superintendent and became one of the real experts in chimney construction helping create landmarks all over the US, Canada, South America and Puerto Rico. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army Air Corp as a machine gunner on the B 25 and B 17 aircraft. He was also a airplane and engine mechanic and received the American Theater Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, the Enlisted Crew Member Wings and the Good Conduct Medal. He is a long time member of Creekside Church and the B.P.O.E. both in Florence Alabama. He is survived by his daughters Dottie and Tim Short, GA., Darlene and Ron Williams, KY, Ginny Dawson, GA., and Suzanne Dawson, OH, brother Billy Dawson, FL., 3 grandchildren Capt. Benjamin Williams, Shannon Snyder, and Harry Myers, 5 great grandchildren Aaron, Haley & Kaitlin Myers, Harper Rose Snyder, Lincoln Taylor Williams, and 3 great great grandchildren.
