Charles  Weston Thobaben died in a tragic accident.  Known as Chuck, he was raised in a small town in Ohio, went to college at Ohio Northern University, served in the Marines in the south Pacific theater during WWII, and worked for over five decades as a structural engineer.  Prior to moving to Kentucky over ten years ago, he had resided with his family in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.  His wife Bettye, dearly loved, predeceased him by some 20 years.  He was a man known for his diligence and determination.  Even in his latest years he regularly cut trees and split wood, hand-dug footers for a recently built shed, and kept up his garden.  He is survived by four sons; John, William, James, and David,  seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, and several foster children for whom he was a grandfather.  Given that he so enjoyed spending time outside on the Kentucky River Palisades, the family has decided that, in lieu of flowers, gifts be given in memoriam to the Nature Conservancy of Kentucky or, as a life-long Methodist, to the service ministries of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Mercer County, Kentucky. His family is planning a service and his inurnment will be in Ohio at a time to be determined in the near future.  Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to provide cremation arrangements for the Thobaben  family.
