Mr. Dale N. Underwood

Dale N. Underwood, 69, son of Homer and Emily (Jerri) Underwood, celebrated life from July 31, 1947 - December 23, 2016. He was born in St. Louis, MO. He prepared for his career in education by graduating from Rhodes College in Memphis, and received his Master’s degree in Education from the University of Memphis. Dale had a long and varied career in education, serving in AR, TN, and KY as a guidance counselor, vocational high school principal, and college teacher (Lexington Community College), where he received the Carolyn Beam Award in the field of computer education. His computer career also included work with WLEX TV and the Lexington Herald-Leader news. Dale’s greatest gift of service was through the Gideons Int. for about 20 years as a lay speaker and Bible distributor. Surviving are Dale’s wife, Joyce; their children, Mark (Alanna) Underwood and Anna (Mark) Van Horn; six grandchildren and his brother Larry and wife Edith Underwood. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday.in Oakhill Memorial Park, Kingsport, Tennessee with a Remembrance Service to be 10:30 AM Saturday, Dec. 31, at Wilmore Free Methodist Church, 1200 Lexington Rd., Wilmore, KY with Pastors Dean Cook, Daryl Diddle, and Dwight Winter officiating. Dale's family will greet friends with a reception to be held at the church following the Service. The family request memorial gifts be made to Gideons, International; Box 345, Nicholasville, KY 40340. Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to serve the Dale Underwood family.
