Elizabeth Wilson Dean

Elizabeth Wilson Dean, 98, died at her Lexington home on Saturday, November 30. Mrs. Dean was a second-grade teacher in her early life, but her true calling was to support and care for her husband, Dr. Melvin L. Dean, and her three children. She enjoyed horseback riding with her family, golfing with her friends, and gardening at her home. After her husband's death in 1991, Mrs. Dean's long life was happily filled with her six grandchildren, who in time presented her with six great-grandchildren. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Lexington Woman's Club, Lexington Country Club, and South Elkhorn Creek Riding Club. She was a founding member of the University of Kentucky Arboretum. She was an alumna of Transylvania College and Morehead State University.
Mrs. Dean is survived by Sarah Dean McGill and her husband, Joel; Susan Dean Mitchell and her husband, Richard; Melvin Wilson Dean and his wife Beverly; six grandchildren, Andrea McGill Casebolt (Jimmy), Bryan McGill (Jennifer), Leah Mitchell Liau (James), Scott Mitchell, Jennifer Dean LaMothe (Robert), and Melvin L Dean, III (Andrea); and great-grandchildren Aidan and Isabel McGill, Lily and Jackson Liau, and Noah and Kate LaMothe.
She is also survived by her brother, Charles F. Wilson, Jr., and his wife Joan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Francis and Lillian Mitchell Wilson, and her brother, Ray Wilson.
At Mrs. Dean's request, there will be a graveside service on December 4 at
11:00 PM at Maple Grove Cemetery in Nicholasville. Memorial gifts may be designated to The Arboretum for the Children's Garden, or the Salvation Army. Her family chose Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home for funeral arrangements
