Fay C. Smith, age 82, passed away Sunday evening, May 4, 2014 at Thompson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Ky. She was born June 29, 1931 to the late Eschol and Lorena (Kelly) Smith. She graduated from Hamilton High School, class of 1949. She served honorably in the Women's Army Air Corp.( Women's Air Force ) She graduated from the Hamilton Program of Practical Nurse Education in 1969. She was employed at Fort Hamilton Hospital for over 30 years. She was known as "Smitty" to her co-workers and patients. Patients often commented on the wonderful, loving care they received. She was also very active in the founding of the Animal Adoption Center. One of her greatest joys was in raising her beloved pugs.
She is survived by siblings Tom (Cledith) Smith of KY; Mary (Richard) Griss of Middletown and Cathy (John) Hunter of Hamilton. Also surviving are 3 nephews: Jeffery Griss of Columbus, OH, Sean Smith of KY and Jeffrey Hunter of Hamilton, 2 nieces , Robin Solazzo of Mason, OH and Becky (Paul) Holt of Doncaster, England. Two great nephews and a great great nephew, many cousins and many,many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held May 12, 2014 at 12 pm at St Luke Catholic Church, Nicholasville, Ky. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson NationalCemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Thompson Hood Veterans Center Activity fund or the Animal Adoption Center. Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to serve the Smith family
