Gena Mae Gribbin Houp, loving mother of Carolyn Sue “Susie” Houp and Margaret Evelyn Evans passed away from this life and began her new one on March 4, 2019.  Gena is the widow of James Thomas Houp who died in 1989. She was born  April 4, 1938, to the late Pearl Drury Downs and the late Tilford “Ted” Gribbin in Woodford County, Kentucky.   Gena was a hard working woman as an employee of Dixie Cup for 33 years. She loved to pray and worship the Lord.  In earlier years she loved to dance, fish, water ski, and camp out with family.  In her later years when her health declined she took up playing video games.  Gena was a family person who loved spending time with them especially for cookouts.  Her loved extended to 3 special great grandchildren whom she raised, Jamie and Nikki Shelton and Alex Williams.  She will be fondly remembered by her daughters  Susie Houp, husband Bradley and Margie Evans, grandchildren Tommy Dunaway, wife Heather, Ray Whitaker, wife Carla, Craig Whitaker, wife Rita Colette, Beth Williams (Paul Franklin) and Judy Russell, husband Tommy.  She was blessed with 24 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She leaves childhood memories with a sister Barbara Cross, brothers Ronald Downs, (Bonnie),  Bobby Downs, Johnny Downs, (Linda) and Roy Downs, wife Fran.  She will be missed by several nieces and nephews and her special friends Mamie Masters and Michele Wyman.  She was preceded in death by a daughter Alma Faye Houp, granddaughter Gena Renee Dunaway, brothers Donald Ray Gribbin,  Jerry Downs and special friend Buck Hager.  A  Remembrance Service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, March 7, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband  in Wilmore Cemetery following the Service.  Honoring her as pallbearers will be Tommy Dunaway, Ray Whitaker, Jacob Houp, Craig Whitaker, Paul Franklin, and Tommy Russell.  Honorary bearers will be Joshua Houp, Zach Perdue, B.J. Penland, Judy Russell, and Beth Williams. Her family will greet friends beginning at 4:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 6, at the funeral home.  “You will never forget your mother’s face, the sound of her voice, her touch, the traditions she left you and you’ll always know that you honor her every day in how you live and who you are”.  Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to be chosen by Gena’s family to care for her and be there for them at this difficult time.
