Geneva Elizabeth Davis Alverson

Lexington - Geneva Elizabeth Davis Alverson died at the age of 93 at Brightmoor Nursing Center in Griffin, GA on September 30, 2014.
A native of Jessamine County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Jasper Davis and Jennie Estelle Dedman Davis. Her wonderful mother and father taught her to be a strong and generous Christian woman.
She loved Nicholasville - the people, going fishing and skating, walking to her country schools (Sulfur Well and Nicholasville), and being in plays at school. When she was a little girl she loved to sing "In The Garden." She graduated from Nicholasville High School, and Mar-Dell's Beauty School in Cincinnati (1940) and was a beautician for eighteen years at Marietta's Beauty Shop, Wolf Wiles, and B.B. Smith. She loved children and taught Sunday School at Nicholasville Christian Church. After she married Welch, she spent many happy years at 713 Lynn Drive in Lexington. She loved to cook and give away homemade bread, candy, etc., and had many hobbies: fishing, gardening (giving flowers to friends), sewing, knitting, crocheting, telling jokes, writing poetry, radio talk shows, reading and collecting inspirational books and music. She grew beautiful morning glories and her nickname on WVLK was "Morning Glory Liz." Elizabeth loved her many wonderful friends and neighbors throughout her long life. She was always there if they needed anything and they loved her in return. She appreciated everything they did for her. She was an active member of Nicholasville Christian Church, Lafayette Christian Church, and the Virginia Chalkas Bible Study at Southern Hills United Methodist Church. She was a strong, Christian woman and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Welch Alverson, the joy of her life, and five brothers: Ollie Lee Davis, John Phillip Davis (Helen), Henry Rice Davis (Opal), William Jasper Davis, and Riley Woodrow Davis who she loved and were so good to her. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Alverson Grant (Robert Grant, Griffin, GA), Jennifer Welch Alverson Hoffman, (Science Hill, KY); grandchildren, Robert Clarke Grant (Kristin), Emily Grace Hoffman, Allison Paige Hoffman; great-granddaughter Caroline Elspeth Grant, and nieces and nephews. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter so much and they were a joy to her heart.
