George Milton Compton, 83, of Barberry Lane, died Wednesday, March 9, at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. He was the widower of Edna Bruner Compton who was the love of his life, a native of Jessamine County, member of South Elkhorn Christian Church, and a veteran of the US Army. George was the owner of Compton Floor Covering located on Main St., Nicholasville which eventually became Compton Clocks. His love of clocks and his ability to make and repair them earned him a reputation that spanned over several states. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, trap shooting and golf. He was a member of Lone Oak Country Club, Bluegrass Sportsman League, and Hart Lodge F&AM. Survivors include a sister Ann Brumfield and her children Jim Brumfield and Billie Haws, a special niece Sue Reynolds, husband Frankie and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, March 12, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, burial in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be John West, Jim Brumfield, J. L. Clem, Jacob Brumfield, Frankie Reynolds and Jerry Haws. Honorary bearers will be George Overstreet, Charles "Bunky" Overstreet, and Denver Shuman. Visitation will be on Thursday March 11, from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday. Donations may be made in his memory to South Elkhorn Christian Church.
