Helen Marie Sallee Sims

Helen Marie Sallee Sims, 66, loving wife of Hugh Byron Sims for 42 years entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 15. Helen was a native of Jessamine County born May 2, 1951, to the late William Henry and Lillian Brock Sallee. She loved people and enjoyed being secretary for the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce, being involved with Welcome Wagon, working at Sims Drug Store and being a Boy Scout Den Mother. She will be remembered by many as the winner of the Miss Jessamine County Fair in their first sponsored pageant and also was Miss Bluegrass Fair winner along with being the recipient of many other awards. She leaves many special memories with her son Sherman F. Peel III, step children Hugh Bryon Sims III, Frank Stephen Sims, Lynn Jones, and Cherice Wings, sister Billie Jean Rainwater, husband Billie Joe, brother Donny Ray Sallee, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild as well as a daughter-in-law Kathy Sims and numerous nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by a son Benjamin “Benji" Sims, sister Betty Beatty, brother Robert Sallee, nephew Joe Rainwater, and step granddaughter Korianna Blackford. A Remembrance Service will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, May 19, at the Wilmore United Methodist Church, Clark Chapel. She will be laid to rest in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Will Kelley, Robby Rainwater, Kenny Durham, Jon Sallee, Rob Sallee, Stephen Sims, Gilben Sims, and Hunter Olson. Honorary bearers will be Frank Sims, Donny “Hambone” Sallee, Hugh Byron Sims III, and John Brock. Her family will greet friends from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, May 18 at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home and from 1:00 PM until service time at the Church on Friday. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society. “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day unseen, unheard, but always near.” Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to serve Helen’s family.
