Helen Russell Turner, 80, widow of Elbert “G” Turner since 2015, joined him in eternal rest on May 3, 2024.  She was a native of Mercer County, born Sept 23, 1943, to the late Condit Brewer and Alice Johnson Russell. Helen was a member of a large family: 8 boys and 4 girls. She grew up learning how to grow vegetables and flowers, and feeding chickens, pigs, and cows. Her favorite activity was sitting out on the roadside selling vegetables and her homemade canned goods and a variety of flowers.  She also like to collect bittersweet and other herbs.  Helen will be missed by her children Hugh S. Johnson, James Allen Johnson, wife Shelia, Phillip Lee Johnson, wife Mary, Rebecca June  Hatter, Kelley Brooke Parmley, husband Jeff,  brother Robert Russell, sister Phyllis Turner, her friend who she called her adopted daughter, Ann Keen, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other extended family members. Helen was preceded in death by a son Wallace B. Johnson and 8 siblings.  A Service of Remembrance will be held 1:30 PM Tuesday, May 7 at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with the burial to follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.  Honoring her as pallbearers will be Jason Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Earl Hatter, Will Hatter, John Ratcliff, and Jonathan Hatter.  Her family will greet friends on Monday May 6, beginning at 4:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM at the funeral home. “Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, she will be missed beyond measure.”  It is a privilege for Hager & Cundiff  to serve the Turner family.
