Nicholasville: James W. ‘Junior’ Barnes, Jr., 83, Lancaster, formerly of Nicholasville. He was the widower of Mary Barnes who died in 2006 , a native of Fayette County born June 22, 1929, to the late James W., Sr. and Lettie Lafoon Barnes. He was a long time member of the Nicholasville Church of God where he had served as Councilman and Superintendent. He was a member of the Jessamine County Saddle Club and loved raising and breaking horses his entire life.
He is survived by his children Charles Leo Barnes, wife Betty, Mary Katherine Cuzick, husband Steve, Doris Jean McGaughey, husband Larry, and Nancy Ellen Paul, 4 sisters Edna Shanks, Lyda Reynolds, husband Penn, Genevie Goodman, husband Merle, and Lula Frances Taft, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Sally Johnson and Margaret Cuzick and brothers Leroy, Walter C, and Homer Barnes.
A Remembrance Ceremony will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 22, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. James Marshall officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Maple Grove Cemetery. His grandsons will honor him as pallbearers. Honorary bearers will be the men at the Nicholasville Church of God.
