Jay Gould McDowell, 99, a resident of Thomson-Hood, formerly of East Oak St. joined his wife Nellie who died 2003 in eternity on Tuesday, June 25. Gould was born Nov. 16, 1913, to the late Frank and Laura Fox McDowell in East Bernstadt, KY. He retired from the US Postal Service at an early age and started his second career as a salesman for Keller Motor Company where he assisted many young drivers in purchasing their first cars. He was a member of Nicholasville Christian Church, member of the Nicholasville Rotary Club, Nicholasville Lions Club, and the Hart F & AM Masonic Lodge as well as a US Navy veteran having served in WWII. He leaves to cherish his memory a son William G. "Billy" McDowell, wife Nita, daughter Joyce Garrett, husband Tommy, grandchildren Laura McDowell Hill, Jay Garrett, wife Kim, Jennifer Edwards, Kristopher Cook, and great grandchildren Joshua Brown, Brianna Garrett, Reece Carter, and Rickie Hill, Jr.. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Albert and Rex McDowell. A Service of Remembrance will be 10:00 AM on Mon. July 1, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest with his wife at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Todd Goodlett, Jerry Garrett, Larry Garrett, Johnny Carpenter, Joe Walker, and Richard Collins. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 30, from 1 to 5 PM at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome but the family suggest contributions be made in his memory to Thomson-Hood Veterans Center.
