Jean Dawson Goldey, passed away Thurs., Aug. 16, at his home after an extended illness. A native of Jessamine County he was born July 3, 1929, to the late Shelby Jefferson and Imogene Stephens Goldey.

He was a lifelong resident of Jessamine County, except for his time in the US Army, spending over a year of his service in Italy as part of the ‘TRUST’ assignment during which he attained the rank of Sergeant. Jean was a farmer, soldier, barber and public servant being a devout Kentucky Democrat. He was school bus driver for the Jessamine County Board of Education, State Highway employee, Deputy County Clerk, County Coroner, Deputy Sheriff and also served as Sheriff. He served his community in many volunteer positions but his favorites were being a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts and coaching baseball.

His hobbies included a love of horses and wintering in Florida where he could fish everyday. Jean was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will always be remembered as a faithful friend to those who had the good fortune of knowing him. He was a member of Pinckard Baptist Church.

Survivors are his sons William Dawson (Sheila Klingshirn), Larry Dale, and Gary Leon (Kristine) Goldey, daughter-in-law Connie Hardesty, grandchildren Sarah Goldey (Mike) Quinn Will, Emily, Katie, Nicholas, Shelby, Jacob , Levi and Jamie Goldey, brothers Frank, George, and John (Frieda) Goldey, sister Ruth Ann Goldey, brother-in-law W.P. Riley, and sister-in-law Eva Goldey as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers William McClellan, James Kenneth, and Joe Thomas Goldey, 2 sisters Carrie Riley and Geneva Schmidt, son Gregory Thomas Goldey, and granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Goldey.

His Service of Remembrance will be 1:00 PM Mon. August 20, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Simpson officiating. He will be laid to rest in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Will, Nicholas, Jacob, and Levi Goldey, Michael Quinn, and Nathan Zitt. Honorary Bearers will be Shelby Goldey, James Goldey, George M. Goldey, Lawrence Riley, Tomi Schmidt, Sarah Curry, Lewis Britton, John Brown, James Humphrey, Benny Peel, Barry Waldrop, Dwight Willis, and Billy Bradshaw. Visitation will be on Sunday, Aug. 19, from 1 to 7 PM.
