John Wilson Blakeman

Our community is feeling the sadness of the loss of a life long resident and the former owner of Blakeman Oil Company, John W. Blakeman, 65. John has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. He has struggled with MS for the last 20 years, but being the loyal and dedicated friend, he kept in touch with friends throughout the years. The family would like to express their gratitude to those who supported him during this time- especially his first nurse, Becky Dawson. John was the son of Mary Eleanor Blakeman and the late Luther M. Blakeman, who died in 1978, and loving husband of Linda Burton Blakeman for 42 years. He leaves to cherish his memories daughters Michelle Renee Goddard, husband Mark, and Melissa Leigh Blakeman, grandchildren Emily and Matthew Goddard, sister Mary Elaine Finocchiaro, husband Joe, uncle Robert Blakeman, and aunt Dorothy Ward, as well as other extended family members and friends. He also leaves behind his best friend and faithful companion, his dog Buddy. John was a member Edgewood Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge Hart #61, Scottish Rite, and Oleika Shriners Temple and had many hobbies especially taking care of his yard. A Remembrance Service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, Sept. 10, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home and he will be laid to rest in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Mike Slone, John West, John Smith, Arnold Cobb, David Latham, and Bradley Burton. Honorary bearers will be John Thompson, Gene Bills, Joe Finocchiaro, Russ Meyer, David Smith, Ron Cundiff, Kevin Corman, and the Jim Smith Sunday School Class at Edgewood Baptist Church. His family will greet visitors from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, Sept.9, at the funeral home with a Masonic Service to be held Friday evening at 7:00 PM. Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Bluegrass. Hager & Cundiff is honored to serve the Blakeman family.
