Kenneth Lee Houp, 76, loving husband of Brenda Guy Houp for 49 years, left his earthly home after a courageous battle with heart disease. A native of Highbridge born June 4, 1942, he was one of three children of the late Jesse Lee and Cleo Dawn Horn Houp. He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served in the Vietnam War and member of the Wilmore Presbyterian Church. Kenneth was a retired employee of the Commonwealth of KY having worked in the Finance Department, Department of Higher Education, Gov. Martha Layne Collins’ Office, Department of Transportation, and Risk Management Department from which he retired. He served on the Jessamine County Planning and Zoning, the Highbridge Park Board, was involved with the River Boat Authority and both the Jessamine County Historical Society and the Estill County Historical Society. He spent his retirement time researching genealogy, which he loved. In earlier years while living at Highbridge he loved to fish. In addition to his wife he will be fondly remembered by his daughters Jessamyn Dawn Houp and Emily Marlene Houp, grandchildren Thomas Lee Hays, Haley, Michael, and Ryan May, brother Harry B. Houp, sister-in-law Katie Houp, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by a brother Ronald Edward Houp. A Remembrance Service will be 1:30 PM Friday, Dec. 14, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Military Honors. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Thomas Hays, Michael May, Andy Beasley, William Guy, Ben Morin, and Wes Houp. Honorary bearers will be George Dean, Bobby Conn, Junior Edwards, Gordon Duke, Watson Ike, Mike Johnson, and Bobby Godsey. The family will greet friends beginning at 4:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM on Thursday, Dec. 13, at the funeral home. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association. “His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he was loved beyond words”.
