Nicholasville: Lavila Harmon Dobson, 89, widow of James David Dobson who died in 1999, died at her home Sunday, Sept. 11. She was a native of Virginia born May 4, 1922, to the late Posie L. and Clora M. Harmon. She was one of nine children of which 4 brothers and a sister have preceded her in death. Services will be 11:00 AM Sept. 17, at Lexington Primitive Baptist Church and she will be laid to rest beside her husband in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Honoring her as pallbearers will be her grandsons. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, Sept 16, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home.
She was a retired school teacher having taught for 29 years. She began her career in a one room school house in Virginia after graduating from Madison College in Virginia then later taught in the Paris City School system all the while attending the University of Kentucky to earn her teaching certificate and became an elementary teacher at Arlington. She had saved the letters that her husband had sent her during the his time in the service and was writing a book called ‘Dear Teacher’. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and bowling for which she had many trophies. Survivors include her children James David Dobson, Jr. wife Barbara, Harrodsburg, Bonnie Reynolds, FL., Edwina Simpson husband Robert, Hickman, KY., Lannie Dobson, Danville, and Shirley Dobson, fianc
