MaKayla Correll

Like the butterfly that emerges from its shell, Reborn, it arises no longer bound to it’s earthly home. Free at last it glides to heights unknown and so has MaKayla Correll, 17, who left her her earthly home Monday, Dec. 5, after a courageous battle with cancer that she fought for ten years. A member of Pinkard Baptist Church she was always full of faith that she shared it with everyone because she never met a stranger and was always ready with a big smile for those she met. She was a graduate of East Jessamine High School, member of the FFA, and last year the East Jessamine High School Prom Princess. MaKayla was a Kentucky Colonel and a long time patient of St. Jude Hospital.

She leave boundless memories to her loving parents George W., Jr. and Tabitha Correll; sisters Madison and Mollie Correll; maternal grandparents Michael and Kathy Adams, and Terry and Wyonnette Camden; paternal grandparents George and Diana Correll; maternal great grandparents Evelyn “Nanny” Reynolds and Jr. “Papaw” Lowry, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. MaKayla had an abundance of friends and teachers that she had at the various schools she attended, but her closest friends were Savannah Vanderpool and Jessica Wilson and her cousin Samantha Hodge, along with her prom date Ethan Scott-Smith. She was preceded in death by her twin brothers Cameron and Christopher. Her family will honor and remember her with a Remembrance Service 11:00 AM Saturday, Dec. 10, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 105 Shun Pike. She will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Richard Grimes, James Lawerence Correll, Raymond E. Correll, Terry Camden, Jr., Kyle L. Adams, Justin Lowry, Robert Bowen, and Eric Bast. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Rick Redden, Bill Robertson, Gary Lowry, Jr., Shawn Parker, Bryan Hodge, Mitch Garrett, and Jason Mercer. MaKayla’s family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, Dec. 9, at the Church. They would also like to express their sincere gratitude to all those who have stood beside their family during MaKayla’s illness no matter how big or how small. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home.
