Marcella Ann Preston Underwood, devoted wife of Charles W. “Chuck” Underwood, Sr. since 1969, entered her heavenly home on Friday, April 14, 2023.  Marcella was born in Jessamine County on October 23, 1942 to the late Marvin and Frances Sherrow Preston, one of their five children.  She was a retired Special Education Teaching Assistant, having worked in several schools in Jessamine County.  Marcella was a faithful member of Jessamine Christian Church, where she participated in the Expect-a-Miracle Group and the Sonshine Gals Circle.  She was also a Kentucky Colonel and truly had a heart for serving others, as she was a former member of the Lions Club and the Jessamine County Homemakers and had served as a Girl Scout Leader at Edgewood Baptist Church. Besides her husband Chuck, Marcella leaves wonderful memories with her children Lisa Kim Tabor, Deana Malette Underwood, Elizabeth Lynn “Beth” Underwood, husband Randall Combs, and Charles Wesley Underwood II, wife Trisha.  Marcella was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren Christopher Geldhof, Katelyn Geldhof, Stacey Underwood, Jack Underwood, Ashton Combs, Hillary Tabor, and Cara Tabor, as well as seven great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, Marcella was preceded in death by three brothers William Amon, Theophilus Albert “T.A.”, and Don Lee Preston and one sister Wanda Preston Hager.  A Funeral Remembrance Service will be held at 9:30 AM Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, with burial to follow at 11:00 AM at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers are Jeffery Hager, Steven Hager, Justin Hager, Wesley Underwood, Mark Underwood, and Ken Walton.  Honorary pallbearers are Christopher Geldhof, Katelyn Geldhof, Kaiden Geldhof, Ashton Combs, Jack Underwood, Stacey Underwood, Len Underwood, and Karen Hager. Marcella’s family will greet friends beginning at 4:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.  Her family suggests donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Salvation Army.  “In the realm of Heaven where they shine- so warm and bright- our loved ones live forevermore in God’s eternal light.” Hager & Cundiff values nothing more than the trust placed in us to care for Marcella and her family.
