Marie Preston, 92, widow of John Preston since 2006, to whom she was married for 64 years, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Sept. 14, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was native and life long resident of Jessamine County and daughter of Arch, Sr. and Myrtie Ann House Hager. Marie was a former member of Mt. Lebanon Church, member of Nicholasville United Methodist Church, the Piece Quilters Group and many other organizations pertaining to homemaking and farming. She was honored as a Kentucky Colonel and was well known for her prize winning quilts and her home cooked meals. She was a ray of sunshine to everyone whose life she touched with her caring, loving ways. She leaves her legacy with daughters Judy Brumfield, husband Walter, Johnetta Ogden, husband Willie, Anna Vance, husband Jimmie, and Jackie Riggs; 9 grandchildren Cynthia Brumfield Leasor, husband Mark, Karen Brumfield O'Connell, husband Patrick, Jeffrey Brumfield, wife Deidre, Jon Scott Ogden, wife Lori, Preston Ogden, wife Becky, John Wiley Keen, wife Lauren, Michele Adams Miracle, husband Keith, Christopher Riggs, companion Stephanie Moses, and Sara Riggs Todd, husband Cody; 15 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews that affectionately knew her as "Aunt Tady" as well as sisters-in-law Ruth Preston and Polly Hager. She was preceded in death by siblings Thelma, Eudel, Elesteen, Flossie, Cornelius, Lyman, Arch, Jr. and her twin brother Vernon "Buddy", son-law- Rad Riggs, and great grandson Brandon Ogden.
A Service of Remembrance will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, Sept. 19, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Maple Grove Cemetery. Her grandchildren will honor her as pallbearers. Honorary bearers will be her nieces and nephews, as well as Rebecca Osborne, and Margaret Webster. Her family will greet friends from 2 to 8 PM on Friday and from Noon to time of Service Saturday. Contributions may be made in her honor to Nicholasville United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Parkinson Association.
