Marilyn Stanger Woodruff, 68, Bloomington, . Sunday (July 6, 2008) at her home.

Her funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Normal, . Graveside Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Donald Demaray officiating.

She was born Oct. 12, 1939, at Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Frank Bateman and Mardelle Amstutz Stanger. A 1961 graduate of Asbury College (magna cum laude), with a major in music education she pursued graduate study in music at Roosevelt University, Chicago. She married the Rev. John H. Woodruff on July 10, 1965, at Wilmore, Ky.

In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Edwin) Woodruff Tait, Huntington, Ind.; a son, Jonathan (Melissa) Woodruff, Charlottesville, Va.; granddaughter, Catherine Elanor Woodruff Tait, Huntington, Ind.; and one brother, Frank B. Stanger Jr., and one sister, Jane L. Stanger, both of Lexington, Ky.

Marilyn was an accomplished pianist and choir director, having served in several United Methodist churches across the Midwest. She also taught music in the public schools of Illinois and Indiana. She saw music as part of a ministry of spiritual formation, which she also exercised through leading small groups in several local churches. Her wide interests and insatiable curiosity embraced religion, politics, psychology, baseball, and, of course, music.
