Marjorie Ely Carter, 84, widow of Sylvester ‘Jack’ Carter passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, July 30, 2012. She was born on Nov. 8, 1927, to the late William Stewart and Amelia Virginia Snow Ely.

Marjorie was an outstanding seamstress and enjoyed sewing as a hobby spending many hours making the latest fashions for her family. She also enjoyed her employment at Hunters Florist, Dr. O P Nicholson, and with Elgin Watch and was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church .

Survivors are 3 daughters, Kim Oatts, husband David, Cynthia Hall, husband Billy, and Jean Ann Shaw, husband Bobby, a step daughter Brenda Cheryl Carter, 7 grandchildren Tyler and Wesley Oatts, William and Brandon Hall, Crystal Ivy, Stacey House, and Jeff Veach, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by 2 brothers William Snow Ely and Wellington Myers Ely.

A Remembrance Ceremony will be 1:00 PM Friday, Aug. 3, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, family members will honor her as pallbearers. Visitation will be on Thursday, Aug. 2, from 4 to 8 PM.
