Mary Gillispie Figg, 87, beloved widow of Kenneth Figg since 2012, joined him in eternal rest on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.  She was born in Clay County, KY on November 13, 1935 to the late Vernon and Carrie Whitmore Cowan.  Mary was known as a good cook, a skill she put to good use working in the Asbury College Cafeteria and later in the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center Cafeteria.  She was a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.  In her spare time, Mary enjoyed working crossword puzzles and the peace of sitting on her front porch watching the cars go by.  She looked forward to festivals, especially the Highbridge Homecoming.  Mary leaves wonderful memories with her son Vernon Figg, granddaughter Melinda Figg, and great-grandchildren Brayson Rooney and Brinley Figg.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Arlene Thomas and brother Dewey Cowan.  A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.  “As some people journey through life, they leave footprints of kindness and love, courage and compassion, joy and faith.  Even when they’re gone, the trail they’ve left behind continues to inspire us.”  Hager & Cundiff values nothing more than the trust given to us to care for Mary and her family.
