Mary Ruth Cassity Johns, 98, widow of Charles E. "Sandy" Johns entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 3, at Lexington Country Place. She was a native of Jessamine County born April 3, 1917, to the late Ollie F. and Bess Teater Cassity. Mary Ruth was a member of the Nicholasville Christian Church since 1939 where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of the Jessamine County Historical and Genealogical Society and served on the committee in 1995, that wrote the current history of Jessamine County. She was also a member of the DAR, Jessamine County Retired Teachers , the Lena Madison Business and Professional Club. She and her husband opened the Jessamine County Insurance Agency in 1962 which they owned until 1982. She was also instrumental in the Teater & Cassity Farm Store and involved in the Kentucky Seed Improvement program. In 1984 she began her employment with Drug Mart Pharmacy as bookkeeper and was there until she retired. She leaves her memories with a brother Welch H. Cassity, wife Oneida, Lexington, nieces Marsha Cassity, Lucia Cassity, Connie Broomhall, Judith Hasler, all of Lexington, and Mary Sue Remark, Sellersburg, Indiana; great nieces Hannah Broomhall, Dottie Broomhall, Michelle Young, all of Lexington; two special cousins Perry "Buddy" Teater and Peggy Teater Harris. A Service of Remembrance will be held 1:00 PM Monday, June 8, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery. Honoring her as pallbearers will be John Broomhall, John Moore, Buddy Teater, Neal Cassity, Ben Doyle, Alvin Underwood, and Gerald Cobb. Honorary bearers are Howard Downing, David McMillen, Doris Stephenson, Judy Graham, Buddy Kurtz, and the Joy Sunday School Class.
