Mary J. Woods, 87, widow of Augustine Woods since 1993, joined him in eternal rest on Monday, March 14. A native of Jessamine County she was born August 4, 1928, to the late Lonnie and Sarah Blakeman Lowery. Having been a longtime member of Nicholasville United Methodist Church, she was very involved in Church activities, and regularly attended the P.L. Clem Sunday School Class. Mary worked for several years in the Jessamine County School cafeteria where she enjoyed all the children she met. She aways enjoyed being fashionable, and was a Vogue kind of lady. Her favorite activities were the fishing trips with her late husband, and creating floral arrangements and wreaths. She leaves these memories and many more with her daughters Brenda Cox Cobb, husband Gordon and Lynn Lawson, husband Jerry, grandchildren Angie Lawson Roberts, husband Ron, Eric Cox, wife Jessica, Coby Lawson, wife Brandi, granddaughter-in-law Belinda Blair, mother of great grandchildren Courtney and Tyler Cox who are the children of Mary's late grandson Brian Cox. Additional great grandchildren are Haberlin, Ben, Nicole, and Seth Roberts, Kennedy and Colton Cox, and Evan Lawson. She also leaves a lifetime of memories with her special childhood friend Maxine Reynolds. In addition to her grandson Brian Cox, she was preceded in death by son-in-law Kenny Cox as well as 3 brothers Chester, Lonnie, and Bobby Lowery and 3 sisters Irene Kaze, Ruth McMurtry, and Gladys Lowery. Her Remembrance Service will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 18, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Wade Arp officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Maple Grove Cemetery. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Eric Cox, Coby Lawson, Ron Roberts, Tyler Cox, Martin Cobb, Wesley Cobb, and Doug Marshall. Mary's family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, March 17, at the funeral home. Donations may be made in her memory to the Nicholasville United Methodist Church Bldg. Fund. A heartfelt thanks to the staff at Council Oaks for the loving care that Mary received while she resided with them.
