Michael Nowitzki

A limb has fallen from the Nowitzki family tree. Michael Nowitzki, 94, left his earthly home and joined his beloved wife Nadine who died in 2014 and Lillian who died in 1957. His soul is at rest and his mind at ease. He was born in Russia where had been a professional horse jockey and served in the armed forces during WWII. A man of many talents, he worked in the circus while performing acrobatics on the back of a horse, was a semi professional soccer player in Belgium, where he also was employed as a coal miner, before coming to the United States and settling in Chicago. He retired from Prudential Insurance where he was employed as a window cleaner for the tower located in Chicago. He leaves to remember the best times, the laughter, and the good life he lived his children Ivan Nowitzki, wife Cindy, Lena Mesis, husband John, Mary Surma, husband Steve, Brian Nowitzki, wife RoseMary, Carl Nowitzki, wife Brenda, and Jeffrey Nowitzki, 12 grandchildren Tamra, Megan, Steve, Matthew, Robert, Jessica, Rachel, Amanda, Jason, Sean, Jonathan, and Aryana, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by children Alex and Colette Nowitzki. A Remembrance Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Wilmore Free Methodist Church. His family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time for Service. Family members will honor him as pallbearers and his son Jeffery will serve as an honorary bearer. His and Nadine's cremains will be placed at Wilmore Cemetery. The family request donations be made to the Wilmore Free Methodist Closing the Gap Fund.
