Mildred L. Collins, 94, widow of David “Dee” Collins, Jr. since 1999, joined him in eternal rest on March 6, 2022. She was a lifelong resident of Jessamine County born Aug. 13, 1927, one of the three children of Charles and Jennie Lane. She was also a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. At the age of 3 her father purchased a piano for her, recognizing the musical talent she possessed. Mildred could play any song after hearing it only one time and remembered the lyrics to sing, which she was able to do until only recently. Early in her marriage she worked at Kroger but stopped working there once she and Dee began their family and she became a full time Mother and homemaker. She worked alongside her husband on their farms and cooked lunch for all the workers. It was always said the reason Dee never had any trouble getting help was Mildred’s home cooked lunches. She will be fondly remembered by her sons, Charles Collins, wife Bebe, and Allen Collins, Frances, granddaughters Martha Jones, husband Justin, Jennifer Wilson, husband John, great granddaughters Jenna Scarberry, Harper Wilson, and Sloane Wilson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Hayden and Frank Lane. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Jackie Fitzpatrick for her compassionate care the last few years of Mildred’s life. A Remembrance Service will be held on Thursday, March 10, at 1:00 PM at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, following which she will be laid to rest beside her husband in Maple Grove Cemetery. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Justin Jones, John Wilson, Terry McFarland, Scotty Vanderpool, Don Wilson, and Donnie Shearer. Honorary pallbearer will be Howard Downing. Mildred’s family will greet friends on Wednesday, March 9, at the funeral home beginning at 5:00 PM and ending at 8:00 PM. “You’ll never forget your mother’s face, the sound of her voice, the stories she told, the traditions she handed down. They are her gift and your legacy.” Hager & Cundiff values nothing more than the friendship, trust, and loyalty extended to us to care for Mildred and her family.
