April 24, 1935 - February 20, 2014
Nancy Loretta Venerable Boggs, 78, widow of Clarence, mother of five, bookkeeper for Lexington's Hymson's Tots and Teens, and an avid gardener passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014. She was born on April 16, 1935, in Laurel County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Albert Venerable , a carpenter and preacher of the Christian faith and Mary Ponder Venerable, a homemaker who also worked for at least twenty years at Champion Paper Mills in Hamilton, Ohio. Nancy had one brother Harold (deceased),and four sisters Betty (deceased), Sue, Shirley and Faye (deceased). Nancy was chosen class Valedictorian of her graduating class at Hamilton High School and belonged to the Retail Sales Club. Soon after graduation she met Clarence "Sonny", a newly discharged Army soldier. They fell in love and married, moving to California to begin their life together, five children were born there: Valerie, Vicki, Sandra, Adam, and Susan. Nancy's love of gardening and the oudoors began in Kentucky in such places she visited like Cumberland Gab. She was able to nurture these interests by planting gardens at each new house and by going camping. Love of travel and homesickness resulted in three road trips from California to Kentucky and Ohio. These trips "back East" kept us in touch with our grandparents on both sides and our forty-plus cousins. Nancy loved her children and family and their welfare was always her concern. This remained true in old age and even through illness she spoke of them continually. They will never forget her pure heart and kindness. A Service of Remembrance will be held on 1:30 PM Monday, Feb. 24, with Rev. Leonard Fitch officiating at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home and she will be laid to rest with her husband at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Eric and Clarence Capley, Ernesto Torres, Raymond Mondelli, Marion Keith Hobson, and Jenny Boggs. The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. The family request donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
