Nicholasville: Nell Lake Veale, 96, of Lyndelle Dr., died Mon., Jan. 8, at St. Joseph Hospital. A native of Berea, Ky. she was born Nov. 29, 1910, to the late William Bradley and Lillian Gertrude Pullin Lake. She was the widow of Finnell Veale who died in 1981. Nell was a member of Nicholasville United Methodist Church and a 1936 graduate of Berea College and began working with KERA during which time she delivered commodities riding a mule. At the closing of this program she was employed by the WPA. In 1937 she joined the Ky. Utilities Mountain Division as a home economist where she continued until 1947 when she joined the Lexington Rail Way System and the Kentucky River Mills. In 1957 began her job with the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture and came to Jessamine County in 1958 to work in the County Extension Office with county agent Clarence Mitchell and secretary Betty Peel Burton where she worked until her retirement in 1976. During this time she was instrumental in expanding the Homemakers Clubs and the 4-H Clubs in the county. She also participated in many civic clubs and became a volunteer for Hospice. Survivors include her cousins Betty Grant, Jim Robinson, Francis Hammond, Majorie Hammond Voth, Joyce Stephens, Marlene Hagan, Phyllis Burns, Peggy Thompson, and Shirley Thompson, and special friends Betty Peel Burton and Waulene Lucas.
Services will be 11:00 AM, Wed., Jan. 10 at HAGER & CUNDIFF FUNERAL HOME, W. Oak St. with Rev. Mike Snyder officiating, with graveside services to be held at 1:30 PM in the Berea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gerald Cobb, James Wilhoite, Randy East, Doug Marshall, Harlan Veal, Jr. and Preston Kennedy. Honorary bearers will be Mary Smith, Betty Peel Burton, Waulene Lucas, Betty Sivis, Anna Bruner, Darelene Sandifer, Howard Downing. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Tues., Jan. 9 at the funeral home.
