Ralph "Dub" Perkins, Sr.

Ralph "Dub" Perkins, Sr., 82, widower of Tommie Foster Perkins who died in 1957 and Mary "Ronnie" Combs Perkins since 2012 left his earthly home on Sunday, March 6, 2016. Dub was a native of Jessamine County born Jan. 15, 1934, to the late Luther and Virginia Mattingly Perkins. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and a man who showed a strong work ethic his entire life. Mr. Perkins began working at Bluegrass RECC at the age of 11 digging post-holes for electrical poles. After 4 years in the Navy, he worked for the City of Nicholasville Electric and Water Departments for 16 years, at University of Kentucky in maintenance for 17 years, at Asbury College in security for 14 years, at the Nicholasville Fire Department for 30 years, at the Jessamine County Fire Department for 32 years, as a newspaper carrier for the Lexington Herald Leader for 14 years, and as a bagger at Kroger for 12 years in many instances working more than one job at a time. Dub was currently working for the Jessamine County Fiscal Court in maintenance as a custodian, where he had been employed for over 13 years.
He was a dedicated father of Freddie Perkins, Mike (Jennifer) Perkins, Marty (Georgia) Perkins, John (Brandy Abner) Perkins, and Stacy Perkins. His children remember him as always being there for them, rarely missing their ballgames and activities. His son said he was not an absent father. Additional survivors include son-in-law Jeff Bowman, brother Joe (Lea) Perkins, grandchildren David (Crystal) Perkins, Chad Perkins, Aaron (Amanda) Perkins, Robert (Hannah) Perkins, Tommy Perkins, Ashlyn Perkins, Sydney Perkins, Madison Perkins, Jeremy Perkins, and Rebecca (John) Perkins Bowman Hensley, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Linda Michelle Perkins Bowman, son Ralph Perkins, Jr., granddaughter Clarissa Perkins, and brothers Fred, Ernest Jim, and Gary Perkins. His Remembrance Service will be held Friday, March 11, at 1 PM at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest beside Mary at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Honoring him as pallbearers will be David Allen Perkins, Chad Thomas Perkins, Tommy Gene Perkins, Aaron Tyler Perkins, Robert "R.W."Perkins, and Jeremy Scott Perkins. Honorary bearers will be Freddie Perkins, Jeff Bowman, Mike Perkins, John Perkins, Stacy Perkins, Rebecca Bowman Hensley, Sydney Perkins, Wayne Malone, David Combs, Darren"Dinky" Stowers and Darrell "Biggie" Stowers.
