Robert M. Gabbard

Nicholasville: Robert M. Gabbard 81, of Logana Rd., died Sunday, April 22, at St. Joseph Hospice Care Center. A native of Garrard County he was born July 3, 1925, to the late Charles E. and Gertrude Berry Gabbard. He was a US Navy veteran having served in seven major battles in the South Pacific and was wounded during this time. He loved gardening, horses, and traveling to historic places. Bob was a devoted family man and had been an employee of L R Cooke Chevrolet for 17 years and John Sutherland Chevrolet for 16 years.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Virginia Fay Cole Gabbard, 5 children Don Gabbard and wife Ruth, Nicholasville, Sue Smith and husband Van, Lexington, Laurel Rhodes and husband Steve, Versailles, Carol McWilliams and husband Chuck, Nicholasville, James Gabbard and wife Valerie, Nicholasville, a brother Donald Gabbard and a sister Viola Hughes both of FL., 10 grandchildren Becky Doan and husband Wesley, Regina Martin and husband Michael, Leah McWilliams, Matt Gabbard, Chase Gabbard, Nicholas Gabbard and wife Ashland, Coty Gabbard, Bradley Smith, Morgan Rhodes, and Jamie Rhodes, 2 great grandchildren Madison Martin and Kaylee Gabbard and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death in 1966 by a son Charles David Gabbard, and a brother Ned Gabbard and sister Alice Stamper.

Services will be 10:00 AM Wed., April 25, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Harrison officiating, burial in Camp Nelson National Cemetry. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
