Robin Pauline Fain, 101, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Royal Manor Nursing Home. A native of Jessamine County she was born April 14, 1912, to the late L. D. and Minnie House Fain. As a young girl Robin attended Elmwood, a one room school, graduated from Nicholasville High School and went on to University of Kentucky for one year, returning to Elmwood at the age of 18 to teach. At the closing of Elmwood in 1936, she moved to teach at Sulphur Well which was a two room school and after 3 years she was transferred to Little Hickman School as head teacher. She began teaching English at Wilmore High School in 1956 during which time she also assumed the responsibilities of librarian. In 1958 Wilmore and Nicholasville merged high schools and she became full time librarian for 25 years. Robin continued her education during her career receiving her A.B. in 1941, M.A.in 1952, and did post graduate work at University of Kentucky and University of Denver receiving her Rank I. She taught library science at UK for four summer sessions and one fall session. She was instrumental in the organization of the Central Kentucky Library Association, the Student Library Association of Central Kentucky(SLACK), served a 2 year term as president of the Kentucky School Media Association, held each office in the Jessamine Education Association, and in 1967 she received the Outstanding Kentucky School Librarian Award. After 52 years in the Jessamine County School system Robin retired in 1983 at which time the School Board named the High School Library for her. She was a life time member of the National Education Association, the Kentucky and Jessamine County Retired Teachers Association, the Kentucky and Jessamine County Historical societies, Jessamine Woman's Club, the Oak Hill Homemakers, the Daughters of the Union, Delta Kappa Gamma, and she also attended Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church. She loved traveling through all 48 states, Canada, and Mexico, reading, crocheting, quilting, and volunteering at the Kentucky Methodist Home Library. In addition to her many students and fellow teachers she leaves to cherish her memory brothers Lilburn Fain and Robert M Fain, wife Janice, sister in law Isabel Fain, nephews Richard Fain, Robert Fain wife Kathy, Roger Fain, wife Suzanne, nieces Becky Troope, husband Wayne, Sharon Sears, Cheryl Plotts, husband Bob, Allison Forbes, husband Tom, and Diana Fain. A Service of Remembrance will be held 100 PM Friday, Sept. 20, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Becky Peterson. She will be laid to rest in the House Cemetery. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Robert L. , Roger, and Richard Fain, Bob Plotts, Wayne Troope, Shane Sears,Chris Campbell, and Brandon Plotts. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the funeral home. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Royal Manor Nursing Home for the kind and compassionate care given to Robin.
