Wilmore: Ronald Lee Houp, 60, of Summer Hayes Court, Lexington, formerly of Wilmore, died Sat. Oct. 20, at the VA Hospital on Cooper Drive.

A native of Wilmore he was born March 7, 1947, to the late Ben W. and Virginia Mae Lowery Houp. He was a 1965 graduate of Jessamine County High School. An avid sportsman at an early age he played high school football and softball for Byron Sims in the 70’s when the team won several tournaments. A veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam from May 1966 to May of 1968 during which time he received a Combat Medic Badge, Sharpe Shooter Medal and Bronze Star. Ronnie had served as a collector for Household Finance, President and CEO of Real Bridge Construction Co., co-owner of Langfels Construction Co. and had been commissioned by Gov. Paul Patton as a Kentucky Colonel. He had a love of horse racing, gambling and life. He competed in trap shooting as he was an excellent marksman and had competed in Richmond, Irvine, Mexico, Missouri, and Lancaster. He was a life member of the VFW having held various offices and had received Exceptional Service Awards in 2004, 2005, and 2006 from the Bluegrass Post 680. He is survived by his wife Wilma Langfels, his children Monica Houp Juett , Ben Wesley Houp and wife Alisa, Mitch Wade Houp, their Mother Naomi Joyce ‘Mickey’ Houp, a brother Otis Ray Houp and wife Janice, and a granddaughter Samantha Lee Thompson.

Services will be Wed., Oct. 24, at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary with Father Joseph Muench officiating, burial in Camp Nelson.
