Ruth Ann (Howard) Holmes

Ruth Ann Holmes, 59, widow of Danny Lee Holmes since 2011, left her earthly home on Sunday Sept. 9, at UK Hospital after a brief illness.  Ruth was one of nine children of the late Tony and Margaret Christine Parker Howard, born March 21, 1959, in Lexington. She loved to cat fish, having just the right touch to catch the big ones.  Her favorite music was any song by Alan Jackson. She loved watching UK basketball and referred to the players as “her boys”, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her 8 children Juanita Stacy, husband Shawn, Rebecca Perkins, Tracy Davis, June Hendrickson, Bobbie Jo Parker, Jeremy, Chrystal, and Heather Holmes, and her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren which could be found visiting her house frequently.  Ruth also leaves her memory with her brothers and sisters Mason Hopson, Cathy Brooks, Marietta Hembree, Joann Taylor, and Jimmy and Linda Howard as well as her nephews and nieces.  She was preceded in death by a grandson Bradley Sullivan, brother Jewell Shannon Howard and sister Sylvia Hurst.  A Remembrance Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, Sept. 14, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Timmy Nichols officiating.  Honoring her as pallbearers will be  Austin Sullivan, Gavin Sullivan, Mitchell Sullivan, Phillip Estes, Michael Hopson, and Tony Hopson.  Her family will greet friends beginning at 4:00 PM on Thursday, Sept. 13.  “Family is like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions, but our roots remain as one”.  Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to serve Ruth’s family.
