Sara Ann Greene, who was affectionately known as “Granny” by all and the loving wife of Herman “Clyde” Greene for 58 years, entered into eternal rest at the Ephraim McDowell Hospital on Feb. 19, 2023.  She was a native of Mercer County, born Feb. 21, 1946, to the late Homer and Nila Drury Barnett, being the last surviving of their 5 children. She was a former employee of Centre College, where she was an assistant librarian and known as one of the Southern Belles of the Southern Bell Telephone Company, where she was an operator. Granny was most known for her farming ability in growing vegetables that she canned and the flowers that she grew around her house. She loved to quilt, crochet, and work crossword puzzles. Her favorite occupation was to be with her family, which lead  her to tracing their genealogy back to the 1600’s and covering many cemeteries with her daughters to track down ancestors.  Granny was a proud supporter of St. Jude Hospital due to her love of children.  She will be fondly remembered by her husband Clyde, daughters Deborah Lynn Bowman, husband Paul, Tina Marie Lynn, husband Steve, and Angela Carol Greene, fiancé Tim Blankenship, along with her nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren (with the 16th expected in July), as well as many other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by brothers Phillip, James, Harry, and Steve Barnett. There will be a Private Family Gathering to celebrate her life.  The family request donations be made to one’s favorite charity in her memory. “ If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever.”

Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home and Cremation values nothing more than the trust given to us to care for the cremation arrangements of Sara Greene by her family.
