Tommy “Papaw Tom,” widower of Georgena Shewmaker since 2004, joined her in eternal rest on Oct. 2, 2023. He was a native of Wilmore, KY, born March 25, 1939, to the late John and Gertrude Woods Shewmaker. He was one of their 11 children. Tommy was a retired employee of Dixie Cup and a US Army veteran. He loved to fish and when asked where his favorite spot was, he replied “Lake Mingo!” He always had a quick wit about him and loved to joke and cut up with pranks. He was a collector of many things and an avid gardener, as well as a fantastic bowler who won many trophies over the years. As of late, he liked to buy Scratch Offs and considered himself an ice cream connoisseur. He will be fondly remembered by his daughter Gina Crank, husband Alan, grandchildren Lane and Aubrey Crank, brothers Jerry Shewmaker, wife Dayna, and Kenneth Shewmaker, wife Bonnie. He was well known throughout his family and to friends as Papaw Tom or Uncle Tom and his nieces and nephews will have many great memories to share. He will be greatly missed by all of them. Tommy was preceded in death by brothers J.D., Marion, Paul, Bobby Gene, Donald, and Treford, and sisters Barbara, and Sally. A Service of Remembrance will be held 1:30PM Thursday, Oct. 5, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held following the Service with Military Honors at 2:30PM in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 AM until time of Service on Thursday. “I would like the memory of me to be a happy one. I would like to leave warm smiles when life is done.’ Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home values nothing more than the loyalty and trust given to us by the Shewmaker Family to care for Tommy’s arrangements.
