Nicholasville: Valerie H. Travis, 89, died Wed. Oct. 20, at St. Joseph Hospice Care Center. She was a native of Garrard County, born May 13, 1921, to the late Ora and Sara Frances Florence. She was the widow of George Edward Travis who died in 1987. Valerie was a retired employee of the Jessamine County School Board having worked in the High School cafeteria for over 30 years, a member of Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church and of the UMW. She is survived by 4 children Carolyn Sue Thompson, husband Danny, Margaret Ann Gayheart, husband Steve, David Edward Travis, wife Linda, and Steven Ora Travis, 5 grandchildren Cynthia Thompson, Randy Travis, wife Megan, Todd Gayheart, Laura Wasson, husband Kevin Bruce, and Mark Travis wife Cheree, 8 great grandchildren, a sister Alice Aldridge, 2 sisters in law Julia and Arline Florence, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers Al and W C Florence and 3 sisters Margaret Florence, Thelma Crigger and Gertrude Penn.

Services will be 10:00 AM Sat. Oct. 23, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Sean Shroll officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kevin Bruce Wasson, Jeff Florence, and Bud Jennette. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Fri. Oct. 22, at the funeral home.
