Velma Hamm 92, widow of Russell M. Hamm died Wednesday, March 6, at Royal Manor Nursing Home. She was a native of Jessamine County born March 29, 1920, to the late Fred and Louvenia Canter Teater. Velma was a faithful member of Little Hickman Christian Church where she had served as treasurer for 50 years, former member of Oak Hill Homemakers, and enjoyed mowing her yard, farming, planting and tending her garden, and cooking.
She was especially fond of dogs and always had one around after her husband passed away in October, 1980. She is survived by her dedicated son Kenney Hamm, wife Linda, grandchildren Michael Hamm wife Kelly, Kettering, Ohio, Jared Hamm, Lexington, and Lauren Hamm, Charleston, SC, great grandchildren Matthias and Miles Hamm, a sister-in-law Velma Clark, husband Lucian and nephews Ed Clark, and Larry Clark, wife Debbie. She was preceded in death by her sisters Lorene Teater and Martha Ann Montgomery.
A Service of Remembrance will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 11, by Brother Lee Baltzer at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2 until 6 PM on Sunday, March 10, at the funeral home.
A special Thanks is given to the staff at Council Oaks Assisted Living for their devotion and care that was given during her stay with them, to Royal Manor Nursing Home and Hospice of the Bluegrass for the comfort they provided during her final days. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in her memory to Little Hickman Christian Church c/o Christie Young 250 Danville Rd., Loop 1, Nicholasville, KY. 40356 or Hospice of the Blue Grass.
