Virgil Clay Sanders, 76, the father of Dale Sanders of Paris, Kentucky and Karen Sanders Kirkes of St. Louis, Missouri died Monday, September 26th at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg, after a short illness. A native of Jessamine County, he was born August 13, 1935, to the late Otis Floyd and Emily York Sanders. Until July of this year, Virgil had lived in Ocala, Florida for the past 26 years where he was the owner of Sanders Auction Company; as well as a realtor, and an auctioneer. He was the former owner of Hedge Crest Farm located in Carlisle, Kentucky. He worked as a farm manager and trainer for Pin Oak Stud in Versailles, Kentucky; was assistant manager for Maine Chance Farm in Lexington, Kentucky; and most recently worked at The Ocala Breeders Sales Company, located in Ocala, Florida.

In addition to his son and daughter, he is survived by a daughter-in-law Cheryl Sanders, two grandchildren ñStephanie Crosby, her husband Duncan; and Jeremy Sanders, his wife Kelsey; a great grandson, Will Crosby; a sister-in-law Barbara Sanders; and a brother-in-law Glen Jones. He was preceded in death by two brothers ñOrbin Ray and Delbert Sanders and two sisters- Opal Cheek Brown and Ruth Evelyn Jones.

Services will be held Friday, September 30th at 12:30pm at Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home and he will be laid to rest at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Thursday, September 29th at the funeral home.
