Virginia "Cricket" (Humphrey) Shelton

1936 — 2020

Virginia “Cricket” Shelton, 84, loving wife for 67 years of Bobby Shelton, left her earthly home surrounded by her devoted husband, children, and grandchildren on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020.  Cricket was a native of Jessamine County, born Feb. 11,1936, being one of eight children of the late Duard and Lottie Lee Bowman Humphrey.  She loved crafts-especially ceramics, loved to cook and was always ready to feed anyone who stopped by the house unexpectedly. She was described as a Top Notch woman who loved her family and friends wholeheartedly. She was always ready to travel with the family and loved her visit to Disney and meeting Mickey Mouse. Cricket retired from General Electric where she had worked for 25 years, but also was a former employee of Irvin Industries.  She will be fondly remembered by daughters Patricia “Pat” Hammond, husband Mike, and Donna Barnett, 7 grandchildren Angie Davis, Misty Chapman, Mike Hammond, Tara Wyman, husband Tommy, Chad Hammond, wife Tammy, Heath Shelton, wife Christina, and Justin Cheek,16 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren as well as close friend Darlene “Bosey” Lujan, son-in-law John Caldwell, his special friend Rose Ann Osteen, special nieces Charlotte Barron and Pam Sallee, whom she considered one of her own, in addition to numerous other nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends.  She was preceded in death by daughters Carol Caldwell, Sherry Mitchell, and Robin Shelton, grandson Robert Eugene “Little Bobby” Cheek, great grandson John Scott Shelton, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Her Remembrance Service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, Dec 28, with Rev. Bill Bales officiating at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home and she will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery following the service.  Honoring her as pallbearers will be Mike Hammond, Chad Hammond, Heath Shelton, Justin Cheek, Joey Davis, and John Caldwell.  Great grandsons will be honorary bearers.  Her family will greet friends beginning at 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, Dec. 27, at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in her memory to Bluegrass Care Navigators. “I would like to leave an echo of happy times and laughing times and bright and summer days.”

The family requests that CDC guidelines be followed by visitors wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.  If you are unable to attend Cricket’s service, call the Funeral Home ( 859-885-4125 ) to reserve a white silk rose to be placed at the Service with your name to be given to the family at the conclusion of the Service.  Cricket’s Remembrance Service will be live-streamed on the Hager & Cundiff Facebook page and YouTube channel.  Hager & Cundiff values nothing more than the trust and loyalty given to us by the Shelton and Hammond families.
