Walter Lee “Shorty” Bradshaw, 75, of Jessamine County, succumbed to cancer in the comfort of his own home on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Walter is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly Powell Bradshaw, his only daughter Paige Bradshaw Sininger, and his only grandson Kyle Bradshaw Sininger. Additionally, two brothers Autry Bradshaw and Keith Bradshaw (Doll), stepbrother, Pete Adams, sister-in-law Shelia Powell (Vickie Elkins), brother-in-law Raymond M. Powell, Jr (Loretta); nephews Bobby Bradshaw, Greg Bradshaw, Jeff (Katie) Bradshaw, Ricky Bradshaw, John (Claudia) Powell, Ray (Tammy) Powell, Kelly (Janet) Powell; nieces Kay Marcum, Edna Bradshaw, Sherry (Bill) Houp as well as several great nieces and nephews survive. His stepmother, Maggie Bradshaw, a nephew Glen Bradshaw, two sisters-in-law Betty and Dorothy Bradshaw preceded him in death. Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
Walter was born January 20, 1943 to the late Vernon “Toots” and Mary Francis “Frankie” Bradshaw in Jessamine County, Kentucky. A graduate of Jessamine County High School and a Technical School in Lexington, Walter began his almost 50 year career at ABDick Products of Lexington (Kopy Kat). He advanced from Service Technician to Service Manager also overseeing the Parts and Warehouse Departments. Many customers became life-long friends.
Walter was ordained as a Deacon within the Baptist Church at the age of 27. He was actively involved in a number of churches throughout his life – Gardenside Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Mt. Freedom Baptist Church and, Edgewood Baptist Church – participating as a Deacon, Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher as well as leading various committees. He served as the President of the Keene Cemetery Company for over 40 years.
Having his childhood in farming, Walter enjoyed working outdoors. Without being asked, he would show up to set, cut or house tobacco, bale and load hay, or work cattle. He raised not one but two large gardens, which he shared the bounty with many in the community. To keep busy in retirement, he began a “handy man” business.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 3 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Edgewood Baptist Church, Main Street, Nicholasville, Ky. Funeral service will be at Edgewood Baptist Church on Thursday, October 4 at 11:00 AM. Walter will be laid to rest at the Keene Cemetery, Keene, Ky. Pallbearers are Bobby, Jeff and Ricky Bradshaw, Wilbern Merrick, Curtis Poor and Billy Ray. Honorary Pallbearers are Greg Bradshaw, Don Mitchell, the Jim Smith Sunday School Class, and former employees of ABDick/Kopy Kat. Hager & Cundiff is honored to serve the Bradshaw Family.
