William Patrick "W.P." Riley

William Patrick "WP" Riley, 89, died peacefully on his farm at the home of his daughter on Bethany Road Sunday Dec. 7. He was born June 19, 1925, in Lexington, KY to the late Laurence Patrick and Ann Elizabeth O'Neil Riley. W.P. was a retired farmer, was the oldest Charter Board Member of the Jessamine County Fire District, a faithful member of St. Luke Catholic Church where he lead the Rosary for many years, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carrie Goldey Riley in 2004 to who he was married to for 57 years, loving daughter Rita Riley Prewitt, great grandchildren Taylor Whitney Kirk and Deacon Quinn Collier, a sister Ann Riley Angel, and brother Thomas Riley. He and Carrie reared 7 children together and he is survived by Isabell Wobbekind, husband Bill, Mary R. Jones, William Patrick Riley, Jr. wife Peggy, Carolyn Woodward, husband Charlie, Lawrence Riley, wife Leesa, and Jackie Carter, husband Greg, 15 grandchildren that adored him and 33 great grandchildren, as well as a sister Patty Riley and brother Jerry Riley. W.P. loved people and never met a stranger. He helped so many people and was a role model to all. He always knew he was working on his eternal salvation to meet Jesus Christ and see his beautiful wife Carrie again. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, Dec. 10, at St. Luke Catholic Church officiated by Father Patrick Fitzsimons. His family will greet friends from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Tuesday at the Church. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Honoring him as pallbearers will be his grandsons and his granddaughters will be Honorary Bearers. Flowers are welcome but the family suggest donations in his memory be made to St. Luke Women's Club, 304 S. Main St. , Nicholasville, KY 40356. Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to serve the Riley family.
