William Wayne Cheek, 66, of N. Lexington Ave., Wilmore, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, at the VA Medical Center on Cooper Dr. after an extended illness. Wayne was a native of Indiana born June 1, 1946, to William Rhodes Cheek and the late Pauline Chapman Cheek.
Wayne was a member of Logana Baptist Church, a retired employee of LexMark, and a veteran of the US Navy having served in Viet Nam. He loved playing his guitar with friends and classic cars and trucks. He was a devoted family man and Kentucky Wildcat fan.
In addition to his father he is survived by his loving wife Patricia Ann Merriman Cheek, sons William Wayne ‘Billy’ Cheek II, wife Pamela Faye and Patrick Dewayne Cheek, wife Melissa Ann, grandsons William Charles and Dustin Dwayne Cheek. He was preceded in death by a brother Denver Cheek in 2006.
A Service of Remembrance will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with his good friend Rev. Jim Gillispie officiating. He will be laid to rest in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Johnny Adams, Denny and Rodney Cheek, Tommy Hamilton, Rick Gilliam, Greenberry Merriman, and Billy W. Poor. Honorary bearers will be Willie and Dustin Cheek. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home.
